Orthopedic Rehabilitation Therapist
A profession that I decided to take on for the rest of my life until retirement is becoming a physical therapist specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation; also known as an orpt. Sounds like a mouth full right? But, all it means is a physical therapist that specializes in after surgery recovery. In order to become an orthopedic rehabilitation physical therapist, there are several steps that one has to go through. A few being the education portion, the time you have to apply for the job, and determination. This position is part of the health care field. Health care is in high demand in our society and is a profession that has job security.
According to ProEx.com, the definition of an orthopedic rehabilitation therapist is someone who “Focuses on the treatment or rehabilitation of injuries to the orthopedic system, which includes muscles, bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments.”(Orthopedic Physical). Which means; that a physical therapist focuses on orthopedics. The therapists have different exercises to strengthen the muscle, bones, joints, tendons, and ligament. Some exercises are squats, walking lunges, calf raises, and high knees. They dedicated themselves to chart making, chart making is the treatment plan for the patients. A therapist never really knows what type of problem or situation that will be walking into the room. They could just be coming out of surgery, and the doctor required them to come in right away, or the therapist might have someone that had a rod put into his back.   It is the job of the therapist to rehabilitate back to their full potential so they’re able to succeed in their everyday life.
If you are looking to become a physical therapist prepare for, four years of undergraduate in either kinesiology or sports medicine. After the undergraduate portion apply for a graduate program that is for physical therapy. A physical therapy program is a difficult...
