Reflection Paper
Chapter 5 is about kids and sport and how it all originated for kids in sports. Around the latter half of the 19thcentury it was believed that it would help children build character and become more mature. Organized sports have grown greatly over the past five years, now that children are more encouraged to participate in sports to stay active. There is also five things that are considered relevant to the growth of organized sports and it is mainly due to parents encouraging and wanting their children to go have fun and experience new things, also it was seen as a way to keep their children out of trouble and not have to worry about what they are doing outside of school and outside of the house. Also youth sports have become significantly more available because of privatized places offering leagues to play on and the growth of places for kids to play sports and parents are more concerned with their children participating in activities and keeping them physically fit. For children to get better at sports it is believed that they must have fun while playing the sport, which will cause them to want to learn more and become a better player at the sport. Another big thing for sports to keep going is sponsorship from companies and government which keeps the sports for children to play cheap and also it leads to more opportunities to play sports because of a low cost to play.
Now days many organizations for training are being created for players to come to and possibly become elite players so that when they get to high school they can compete well and possibly land a scholarship offer to participate in NCAA sports. There has also been a major increase in the popularity of alternative and action sports, such as skateboarding, bmx and dirt biking and also pickup games have become a popular thing over the past years becoming more popular for children to participate in.
