Polygamy is a marriage where a person has more than one spouse. Polygamy is practiced in three ways. The first way is when a husband has more than one wife which is called polygyny. The second way is when a woman has more than one husband and that is called polyandry. The last way is when husbands have many wives and those wives have many husband and that’s called a group marriage.
What and where is polygamy found? Polygamy is a marriage where a person has more than one spouse. It is found in 6 different religions. These religions are Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Mormonism, and Islam. In Buddhism they did not favor polygamy in the past but since 1935 they come to accept it. Tibet is known as the worlds largest place to practice polygamy. They may also practice monogamy which is when a   person repeatedly married and divorced multiple partners. In Hinduism polygamy in the past was practiced all around but there was a period that it was immoral but some people still practiced it. In Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs it was illegal to practice it, but Muslim men were allowed to practice it. In Judaism in the biblical practice they thought it wasn’t a bad thing to practice it. But in the Modern practice mostly no one practices it and if they do there are very little. In Christianity some churches strongly disagree with it and some don’t mind it that much. In Mormonism they were aloud to practice polygamy but the mostly just followed polygyny. Most of them had to leave the US because they made it illegal so the went to Canada or Mexico. But the people still are in the US and practicing it and mostly in Utah. Lastly in   Islam they only practice polygyny. The men can only have multiple wives. But there are still parts of Islam that don’t like the idea of practicing any of the polygamy.
