The readers seem to be young unmarried men between the ages of seventeen to thirty. I say unmarried because I’m not sure if any wife would be comfortable with their husband reading this kind of magazine. Plus, when you get to a certain age this shouldn’t be the first thing you pick up off of a magazine stand. Also you can go as far as saying that the men reading this magazine may have little to no responsibilities. This is a magazine that you read at a very leisure time in your life where things don’t really matter. If you’re older you’d be at a more advanced professional level reading something like GQ. Browsing through the magazine you already know you’re not picking up this month’s issue of Elle magazine. Its more playful, mocking, and so-forth.
Men are said to have shorter attention spans than woman. For the most part, the articles are very brief and don’t hold valuable information. One article that if read by woman would be seen as pointless would be the one on beer pong. This article takes up about three pages and just goes on about the experience of being in Las Vegas and seeing the contest first hand. There are many interviews with woman and they make sure to ask them if they are single or in relationship in most of them. They do this because the women are seen as desirable and in a way it gives the readers a thought that they may have a chance with the woman, even though in reality they don’t. They tried to input the women’s point of view by even getting an article from a woman about how to get away with cheating.
Maxim magazine may be a very racy. Every other page contains a half naked woman trying to sell you some cologne or cigarettes. Its filled with a bunch of information that women could care less about. But in the end, who cares what the women think because this magazine has been formatted to fit the expectations of a man.
