Lecture 1. Fashion industry in London.

I thought that probably the best way of introducing you to what is, as you probably know, a very special place, not just in British life, but a very special place internationally; fashion today is not simply fashion, but a powerful industry: not only trade, but also education. Nowadays London is one of the four biggest fashion capitals of the world. They are four the most fashionable cities in the world: London, Paris, Milan and New York. Now by way of introduction I’d like to try and give some indication of how London exists as the capital of fashion.
London remains one of the most exciting and creative fashion cities in the world. London Fashion Week is now established as one of London's premier events, attracting a target audience of key fashion leaders, retailers and press. Do you follow that? London Fashion Week is the official voice of the designer fashion industry. It includes catwalk shows and a trade exhibition as well as the world’s leading new designer sponsorship scheme. The latest London Fashion Week version, in February 2009, demonstrated once again that London is one of the world’s most vibrant and creative capitals, and saw the largest ever attendance of UK buyers, international press, photographers and broadcast crews.
Before we go on to the famous London’s fashion designers I’d like to talk about the unique London’s style. The city has the firm grasp of creative modernity and youthful, brave design. There are some areas in London that attract a lot of buyers, tourists and people who are fond of fashion: Sloane street, Brompton Road, Kensington and Bond Street.
So you can say that since London is the capital of fashion, there are, of course, a lot of people, who develops new styles for clothing or clothing accessories. Being a successful fashion designer means to have a lot of creativity, imagination, fearlessness and passion. Nowadays the names of the most famous London designers are known all over the...
