The Understanding
Men and women have been misunderstanding each other for generations, probably since the beginning of time. In the movie “Taming of the Shrew” by Shakespeare it is obvious that most of the men and women in the movie misunderstood each other. In the movie Katharina Minola is a sharp-tongued, temperamental daughter of Baptista Minola a wealthy gentleman from the city of Padua. These characters have reminded me of my friends and some members of my family. They actually start with misunderstanding each other and end up understanding each other more than anyone else. It used to seem strange but after watching “Taming of the Shrew” and grasping the key points I realized how it works.   I found that men and women usually misunderstand each other because of their different methods of thinking, but then again these confusions between men and women lead to a better way of understanding each other. I understood that the most important things that help men understand women or vice versa are to not judge a person from his first appearance, be patient and be able to observe, think and then comment.
An important thing in understanding each other is being patient and observing the persons actions and reactions then taking action on it. In the movie Petruchio didn’t give up on Katharina’s behavior, instead he watched what she did patiently and thought about it. After understanding her he acted towards what he observed in an intelligent way. He first observed Katharina’s behavior then started acting. His acts were all to prove to his wife that whatever he says is to be done. He first started when they arrived at his house, the dinner was ready but he claimed that the food was burned and started yelling at his servants and pushing the food around. At that time Katharina was hungry and tried to explain to her husband that the food was well cooked.   Petruchio insisted on what he said to prove to her that he doesn’t take his words back.
