Fashion in My Eyes
A usual and frequent question is always asked: what’s fashion? Probably few of us can accurately and confidently define the concept of fashion. Yet perhaps we will get some hints from the fashion icon--- Audrey Hepburn.

Since Hepburn appeared in her famous film Rome Holidays, her typical image of elegance deeply carved in audience’s minds. A trend of following Hepburn prevailed in Europe between 1950’s and the beginning of 1960’s. Ladies were crazy about the fabulous costumes that Hepburn dressed in her films, but not more than her hairstyle, that you could find several “Hepburn” in a same street. The popularity of Hepburn’s style remarked the beginning of fashion era from which we can, in a general sense, conclude the idea of fashion which means the prevailing trend of styles in a particular time.

However, fashion, in my eyes, is not just something exists in surface only. “Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what’s happening” said Coco Chanel, with whom I so much agree.

Come back to Hepburn’s fashion period, ladies dressed like her from hair to shoes, but how many of them really brought out their charisma just by appearance imitation? What made Hepburn blossomed into one of Hollywood’s more prominent leading roles was her intrinsic uniqueness, not simple dresses. As a matter of that, we won’t get surprised that why people still cried for bewilderment although they had already had a perfect dresses copy of their idols.

The point is people get lost in trends. As I mentioned before, fashion can only last in a short period of time, once people got accustomed of it, they felt bored, and then a new fashion will emerge and replace the previous one when it cannot meet the expectation of social development. Most of us nevertheless, walked behind the so called fashion and became the slaves of it. Virtually, with the aimless searching of vogue, we left our individuality behind, but completely fell into the mass fad.
