CHOKING

Children choking on foreign objects are one of the number one reason why children are killed. Many parents are not child proofing their children’s toys and the ones that are approved by Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) still the culprits that end up getting into the airways of young children. There has to be more supervision of children to make sure their lives are not taken.
“About 2.5 million American children and about 60 percent of the children were boys. Average age for children is 2.5; children choking on objects other than food were 4.3 years old. There were 55 percent of the patients were younger than two.”
There are many kids that get choked on food, toys, and other household objects. You would think that it would stop there but many children stick things in their ears, noses, and other areas not knowing the severity of things. A parent’s worst nightmare is to feel that they could have done more but we cannot be everywhere. When they think they are looking or paying attention they find that they are not paying enough attention.   I have had a child to stick an object up their nose and my sister’s child had done it several times. My niece had to be taken to the hospital to make sure it was taken out immediately.
Supervision of children has to be a big part of a parent’s day. Even though at times it can be hard to do it must happen. We try to keep our children away from harmful people, so we should do the same for small objects. Responsibility is key.
