                            Children Struggles in the Adult World

          Differences in social status are exposed through the highly confound social hierarchy of Maycomb. The well off Finches are near the top of Maycomb's social hierarchy with mostly the rest of the town beneath them. Unenlightened country farmers such as the Cunninghams are below the towns people.
The white trash Ewell's are below the Cunninghams and the black community of Maycomb despite it's exquisite qualities are deficient to the Ewell's. These severe social divisions that make up so much of the adult world are divulged in the book to be both fallascious and catastrophic. Social classes are the arrangment of individuals into divisions of power and wealth in a society.

Prejudice is a prejudgement; or a preconcieved belief, oppinion or a judgement made without ascertaining the facts of a situation. Prejudice is commonly used towards someone due to; race, social class, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, or religion. There are three types of prejudice:
      -Cognitive Prejudice: Refers to what people believe to be true. Like how Jem, Scout and Dill think of all these demented things about Arthur "Boo" Radley which they conclude to be accurate.
      -Affective Prejudice: What people like and dislike. The Maycomber's were very firm in what they gratified and opposed to. Most of the towns people were not necessarily racist but all the men sitting on the jury were white males, who mostly didn't like Mr. Tom Robinson because of his skin colour. They hadn't even heard the case and had already come to the conclusion Tom had to be guilty.
      -Behavioural Prejudice: How people are inclined to act. Cecil Jacob's is a prime example of a behavioural prejudice because he states things such as that ..."Atticus is a nigger lover"... barely even understanding the true meaning behind this statement.
