‘The Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas’
There are no heroic characters in ‘the boy in the striped pyjamas’ because they all are either too powerless or that powerful they are not heroic. I believe there are maybe three sides in this story. One side is the Powerful. They run the show and decide the fate of the weak. The Weak, obviously the Jews as they are helpless and have no will to fight back. And then there are the people like Father. Those types of people are regarded as the helpless dominant kind. Father has all the power he needs but doesn’t have the power to leave his job. That is why I believe there can’t be a hero in this book as no one has a choice.
I believe that there can’t be a hero in the situation that the German Army & People and also the Jewish people are in. For instance the Germans at the moment are the people in power and they live in a land of brainwashing and phony power. By saying phony I mean the power they have is only against the Jews who actually have no power at all. Therefore they are battling something that can’t battle back. Even the nicest of characters in the book can’t have a real heroic name next to them because they might every now and then change. Even say if someone accomplished a nice act to a Jew for example like Mother or Bruno wouldn’t help because in the end they are always dedicating themselves to the Nazi army. Maybe not Bruno but even there was a moment when Bruno had lied about knowing Shmuel and in result Shmuel got beaten by L.Kotler. The jews on the other hand are powerless and have no power to stand up for themselves. This is where the Germans would take charge and kill who ever tried to make a point.
Moving on, Bruno is our main character. He is a young boy and unfortunately for him at the moment he is the son of ‘Father’ (Bruno’s dad who runs the concentration camp) and is in the middle of all the brainwashing “There is such thing as a nice Jew, though, isn't there?” “I think, Bruno, if you ever found a nice Jew,...
