The Game

High school students filled the stands, while others had already entered and were cheering and chanting, eager to see what was going to transpire. The band was playing, blowing, drumming, beating to the sound of   the school's fight song, creating much excitement in the crowd. As an athlete, I was sitting in the dug out with adrenaline rushing throughout my body, ready to perform and show all that was capable of doing. It was a new season and our team had new talent, nothing could have stopped us from being champions.

Every game we suited up, said our chant, sang the National Anthem and said a little prayer. Every game the opponents walked in and felt defeated by hearing our chants and screaming fans. We were always supported by a huge crowd. When assuming our positions on the field, we were sure that we would play hard, work hard and not be defeated. We made up in our mind every time, no matter the team, we would not be intimidated by anyone.   The emotion that I feel, during a game is indescribable. It was something about hearing my coach smile and say, “Young, You are up, Don't let me down!”   Hearing that as well as hearing my teammates chant, clap and cheer as I stepped up to bat, always gave me a sense of being. It was my reasoning for never giving up and never backing down, because I knew that   they were all always counting on me. And with that, I had a responsibility, I could not let my team down. I focused directly on the pitcher, and always swung the bat with much power and accuracy. I felt in my mind that no matter where the ball went, I would always hit. And I did just that.

I was convinced that I was a real champion. I had mind of a champion and the heart of a champion, my skill was not no the best, but will-power defeats skill on any day.   I was confident, energized, and always dedicated.
