English Monologue

Tom the Loner, not much of a nickname to go by, but at least I had one. I guess I was the quiet one, the lonely one, the one that was barely noticed. Averagely sized, back straight, polite, but no self confidence. Primary school seemed to fly by. I was ahead of everyone, in pretty much everything. I sat in the corner every break time with my damson jam sandwiches, homemade by my dear mother, bless her. When it was sunny I sat in the school orchard, I liked the tranquillity; but when it was raining, I was forced to sit in the tiny, over populated school hall, which I hated with every ounce of my heart. I led a simple life, containing not luxuries, but necessities. I had everything I needed, and I was content.

Secondary school. Like most people my age, it shaped my ‘social’ life. Unlike other students, I actually enjoyed school; it was a chance for me to expand my horizons. The people weren’t particularly friendly however, so I didn’t make any friends. But, there was a girl, beautifully stunning, clever, talented, kind, caring, I could go on. She was perfect, every time I saw her, my heart, literally, skipped a beat; she wasn’t stuck up like the rest of the popular girls, she actually cared, made an effort no matter what the situation. I so wanted her to notice me, but like I said, I was the lonely, unpopular loser. I wrote anonymous letters to her, posted them through her locker in the morning every now and then. I enjoyed seeing her smile as she arrived at school, to find a hand written poem describing her flawless beauty. You could say I’m pathetic, or you could call me romantic, either way, she was all that mattered. I would wait in the locker room, with my revision booklets, trying to work up the courage to talk to her, but I never could. I’ve never been able to talk to girls, well, I’ve never really been able to talk to anyone.
