‘The Essence of an Indigenous Heritage of Endurance’ research is on Indian white thread work on calico, with traditional post-embroidery treatments. The attempt is to view the embroidery from a new perspective as a worshipper, as an art and as a science. The sensitivity to recognize the true spirit and mysterious evolution of the craft is an objective of the process.   An attempt in exploring Chikankari to the extent of establishing it as an historical art-form is made, and having zero involvement of dyes, chemicals and manmade products, it can   be coined as ‘Eco Chikan’.
The most exciting part is to trace its origin in ancient Indian paintings of Ajanta and Bagh. The extraordinary work of Padmapani Bodhisattva is an artistic legacy and to relate its compassion to the hand skills of rural women is a firm premise to work on its historic evolution. A worthy tribute to the two prominent arts of India would be to bring back the genuineness of life to its contemporary form, by bringing perceptibility and acquainting people about the passion, diligence and sweat that are a component of concoction of this art.
The documentation of the making of design and their impression on fabric through wooden blocks to numerous stitches forms the core of this project. The attempt is to study the traditional technique of bleaching and other treatments in detail to the extent of supporting its rejuvenation. The study of craftsmen & women, their family lineage forms a salient feature and core strength in the research process. The context of transformation and extinction of some elements would also be researched on.
The problems of the craft in past and present are recorded and analyzed.. The continuation of the craft and its use over centuries is maintained only because it represents the purity of the land. The journey of the craft through ages will surely inspire the world to restore the incredible process and magnanimity of this ancient Indian heritage.
