NOVEMBER 2010.

1.3     SCOPE OF THE DESIGN
The following electrical engineering services are necessary for the design project.
1.3.1 ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
High voltage electric service: considering the amount of power required for this development, the supply from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) is taken from the high voltage side to ensure a more stable or steady voltage. This means that power supply to this development will be taken through 11KV high tension (HT) drop via an H-pole and laid underground to terminate in a distribution transformer to be located not far from the building site.
1.3.2 LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRIC SERVICE
Power supply to the residential building and other attaching rooms like the generator and control rooms shall be by low voltage cables taken from the nearest LT (Low Tension) underground lines. These low voltage cables shall be 600V grade and must be armored cables buried 800mm below ground level and contained in Underground Polyvinyl Chloride (UPVC) sleeves, and marked for easy identification. The feeder cables are terminated on control equipment in the building and then supplied to the distribution boards/ consumer units. The supply to the security lighting shall also be taken from the control mains through the three – phase meter to measure the power consumption of the building and other facilities located in the designated area.
1.3.3 STANDBY POWER
A standby power supply is necessary to support the entire development in the event of power failure from the public utility. The change – over from public power to generator and vice versa will be automatic and integrated into the main low voltage panel such that the generator and the public power will...
