Biotechnology and Jurassic Park

No other movie to date has been able to visually or cinematically come close to the in depth look on the biotechnology experiments taking place today. Even though the experiments portrayed in the movie are fictional the technology does exist and there is a threat and an inherent danger that comes with experimenting with biotechnology. Biotechnology is defined as using biological processes or living beings to provide a specific industrial benefit or purpose. In the movie Jurassic Park it perfectly captures the inherent risks and danger that comes with trying to industrially creating life for ones benefit.
In Jurassic Park there is really a complete absence of God but not religion. Christianity is referenced in a polar opposite way, meaning they don’t directly say it is wrong but they say science is the only logical method on earth. Many theologies are referenced in the movie such as the theory of karma “Living systems are never in equilibrium. They are inherently unstable. They may seem stable, but they’re not. Everything is moving and changing. In a sense, everything is on the edge of collapse” (Dr. Ian Malcolm ).The only time God is mention is when Dr. Allan Grant says “these people here are playing God here.” Meaning that they have assumed themselves as capable of bring in life to the earth without God. the main theology that runs through the movie is a secular humanistic world view. A world absent of religion was science was all they believed in. They eliminated Gods messianic intervention in bringing forth life. The dinosaurs were created by cloning the DNA found in fossilized mosquitoes blood and fused with the female egg of a frog with an almost identical DNA make up. So they in fact brought back to life an extinct animal and breathed life into it, playing the role of God. Jurassic Parks depicts a world absent of religion and judgment from others. It shows how dangerous trying to play God is.
