In the tragedy Antigone Creon is put in a difficult position. He keeps hearing reasons to change his mind but never truly listens because he is so focused on protecting his pride. He selfishly decides to kill his own son’s fiancé because he only cares about what he thinks. He is altogether inflexible because of his pride and selfishness.
As people give Creon more reason not to kill Antigone he seems not to care. He acts like he doesn’t have to care about what the others think. His son Haemon says, “Other men reason rightly too,” then goes on to say, “but a wise man has much to learn without a loss of dignity.”   This implies the Haemon thinks that Creon should listen to the people, and Creon responds saying, “And I must let the mob dictate my policy,” then continues, “do I rule this state or does someone else?” He is clearly thinking more about his pride than what is the right thing to do.
He kills his son’s fiancé just to keep his pride. He clearly doesn’t care that his son loves Antigone. He says, “Off with the wretched girl, I say she dies in front of him, before her bridegroom’s eyes.” If he really cared at all he would not kill her right in front of him. He obviously, at this point, is mad at Haemon for coming up with god reasons why Antigone should not be punished from breaking the law he made.
Though some people might say that he decided to let her go and that she broke the law and had to pay the consequences, he still is prideful and selfish. By the time the people could talk him into being fair and letting her go she was already dead. And the law he made required Antigone to disrespect her brother. Most of all it took a prophet with a bad prophecy to get him to free her. Tiresias told Creon, “A corpse for a corpse the price, and flesh for flesh- One of your own begotten. The sun shall not run his course for many days before you pay.” If it really takes a family threat to get him to see that she should not be killed he clearly is prideful and selfish....
