Creation
The movie concentrates on the events that happened to Darwin when he was writing the book the origin of species. On his professional life Darwin was a respected man. He was seen by his friends as a weapon able to ”knock-out religion”. Since Darwin was a religious person for him it was a conflict to deal with the dogmas of religion and with his observations. Another aspect that the movie makes emphasis is on the personal life Darwin had, he was a dedicated father that had always time for his kids and was actively involved in their lives. He had a special bond with his daughter Annie because of the great inquisitiveness the girl possessed.
Many things called my attention, the first one is that Darwin was so tormented because his observations were contrary to church dogmas, that is evidence of how strong cultural control can be. It also called my attention Annie’s inquisitiveness and the bond she had with Darwin. Another thing that called my attention is the way church use to make sense of the world, which reminds me the way people get their identity and that hurry to make sense of our world, then we become ethnocentric, which is find is part of our nature. Lastly it called my attention the negativity that Darwin used to refer to natural selection when he talked to the priests or when he said that “we are like survivors in a boat” but learning about life or science doesn’t need to be seen with that negativity even when contradicts the idea of “God” the way we are use to.
