1. Antonio and Bassanio’s friendship is a very close one. Bassanio consider Antonio his best
friend. I also think that Bassanio is also Antonio’s best friend because Antonio lent
money to Bassanio so he can pay his debts while living the high and fun life. Antonio
even sacrifice his own life to Shylock so that Bassanio can have three thousands ducats to
woo Portia.
2. This speech is vital in the characterization of Shylock, and also exhibits motifs, which continue to be seen throughout the play. Money and religion are major aspects of the play and Shylock's speech establishes this city he lends out money gratis.

3. Venice is a city which is located on the sea coast in the north of Italy. Its main streets are actually canals and the only vehicles available are boats, while Belmont is a city which is situated half-way between San Francisco and San Jose, in San Mateo County. Known for its wooded hills, views of the San Francisco Bay and stretches of open space, Belmont is a quiet residential community in the midst of the culturally and technologically rich Bay Area.
4, Shylock's function in the Merchant is to be the villain. I call this type of villain the "professional villain," because being a villain defines his function in life and a victim, because not only is he physically abused in the text , his business is undermined, and he is an alien in his own city.
5. Portia is a woman that saves the life of a man with her wit and intelligence. Portia is one whose beauty, lively intelligence, quick wit, and high moral seriousness have blossomed in a society of wealth and freedom. Bassanio is a worthy husband for her because Portia fulfills the once that Bassanio lacks, they’re perfect mate.

6. Shylock has the right in law to his pound of flesh, and refuses. Portia's the quality of mercy is not strained. It also states there that it wasn’t justice at all, but vengeance and all through out mercy got the top of the conflicts and it was then resolved because of the...
