I believe that both the internal and external pressures that move us as individuals begins very early on in in, "socialization-the process by which a child learns to be a participant member of society."   (Pg.99)   It seems as right from the womb, we, as individuals start learning to wear our many different hats that we will change, take off or replace with many more throughout our lives.   "Every role in society has attached to it a certain identity."   (Pg.98)   What this means is that some identities are not so imprtant as others and may be only temporary ones.   For example, in certain occupations that require less change than others.   A good example would be that of the garbage collector changing occupations to a night watchman, thats not as difficult as compared to a clergyman changing to an officer, pg. 98.   It seems as certain roles we can aquire or adapt to, but in reality there are social roles assigned to us right from birth.

"What happens in socialization is that the social world is internalized within the child."   (Pg.121)   So, it seems as society controls   and shapes our identities from the begining, our identity, thoughts and emotions.   I have never been one for change, but the sooner it was accepted that change is life, I was more willing to have a more positive outlook on life. It is a mucher smoother transition, so that those many hats we will try on, throw away or keep will fit more easily.
