This is a summary of Matt Ridleys' book, The Red Queen. It only contains Chapters 1, 2, 8, 9 and 10. I will upload the rest of it later on.

Chapter 1
Since the first time that a human being was on earth evolution has had a principal role in the way we think, act and live. The point that M. Ridley is trying to convey on this first chapter, is to make the reader realize that in order to recognize human nature we must began at the very beginning of it and how it has evolved until now. Also, in order to know how human nature evolved we need to take a deep look into sexuality and how this aspect of humanity has evolved as well. We are beings created to breed, and sex is the only way to achieve it. Back in time, our ancestors would fight for food, places to live, etc. in order to survive. Evolution is not a coincidence or a matter of luck; it is actually very far from that idea, evolution relays on genes. Since our ancestors had to survive against adverse conditions, only those whose genes were designed to overcome those difficulties were able to remain on earth. This process allowed human kind to evolve generation through generation. Evolution of human nature also affects the way we think and act. The intellect of human beings is not a matter of luck or the result of a divine selection, it is tied to our ancestors and the evolution process that we have been trough. Ridley, also states that evolution reaches the relationship of marriage. Husband and wife have more than just a relationship based on help and support; they end up getting into a conflict situation because they both want to take advantage of each other in order to procreate. When talking about evolution it is important to understand that evolution is sort of a never ending race. Once a problem has been solved, and that solution has allowed us to evolve, another problem comes up; it is the way how evolution goes. It does not matter how fast we evolve, the world evolves faster.
