Earths Temperature

Scientists have found evidence that Earth’s temperature has been increasing over the past years. For instance, they found that in the Northern Hemisphere, ice began to melt 9 days earlier than it did 150 years ago. Moreover, in Alaska, western Canada and eastern Russia, the temperature has risen to as much as 4-7 degrees Fahrenheit. Earth’s temperature has been fluctuating between cold and warm over the past million years and these changes are regulated by sunlight. Scientists also believe that by looking back at the history of the Earth’s temperature changes they can find out some explanation about today’s climate change. They can find evidence through looking at remnant materials such as glacial ice, pollen rich mud, ocean sediments and at what historians wrote about the climate.
The rising temperature has a negative effect on Arctic ice that works as cooling for the world agent on top of the earth. Sea ice in the Arctic has shrunk and became thinner. Predictions say that by the end of the century half of the Arctic’s summer ice would be melted. In addition, the snow on Mount Kilimanjaro peak melted by 80 percent. The rising temperature at the Arctic has already shown its side effects, many residents report that ocean storms cannot be stopped because of the decreasing sea ice that used to stop those storms from getting to the residential areas. Other side effects such as the loss of polar bears and penguins have been apparent. Ice melting in the northern hemisphere led to the rise of sea levels by 4 to 8 inches. Many floods are likely to occur due to the rise of sea levels which is caused by the melting ice.
The main cause of the earth’s rising temperature is Greenhouse gases. These gases are produced by human activities such as, burning fossil fuel and forest clearing.
