Torture
Torture is an action in life that is always regrettable concerning the harm done to someone, usually in order to gain some information from the person being tortured. Mirko Bagaric and Julie Clarke say in a case for torture essay that, “Torture is permissible where the evidence suggests that this is the only means, due to the immediacy of the situation, to save the life of an innocent person” (Bagaric, Clarke, 3). I couldn’t be more agree with them because in my way of thinking I believe that this is an example as to when we might use torture.
Moreover, torture has been used in many governments around the world. I believe that when the safety of a country is put in danger, some rights are sacrificed in order to provide for a safer country. These rights which are sacrificed, open the door to all new opportunities and actions that may be used in order to ensure the safety of the country and its habitants. Torture in itself is inhuman and violent, but when the need arises, countries should be able to perform all actions that are necessary and proper in order to maintain its integrity. In the same way, if torture can be used to protect the innocent, then there should be no hesitation in one’s decision to use it. In extreme cases, radical measures must be taken to solve the problem. If this includes hurting a terrorist to protect the lives of millions or just one life, then it should be done. I don’t advocate torture as punishment. I would say that torture shouldn’t be used as a punishment, but only as prevention.
In conclusion, I don’t believe using torture is a viable mean. It is barbaric and unconstitutional, even if, someone may be coursed into using it to get what he or she wants. But in those cases i believe it is our own instinct that drives us. Torturing a person is unconstitutional but to understand why it is, just imagine being in their shoes.
