                                                  Herat University

      Herat University, as one of the governmental organizations of Higher Education in Afghanistan, was inaugurated in 1988 due to the highly request of open minded and educated people resuming with faculty of Literature & Humanities.
Presently, it is about 18 years that this institute is working in academic affairs and it graduated about 1249 specialists that now servicing the community.
Herat University in this short time can publish eleven Faculties, more than 37 Departments, 210 teachers, more than 6000 students. And can Expert more than 2385 students up to 2006. In 2006, about 6000 students were enrolled in Herat University in different faculties that 71 percent of them were male and 29 percent were female students. However, during the Taliban regime, there was no chance for females to study but still we have 35% female students and we hope to increase the number of our female students in next years.
Herat University was baring during the regime of Taliban and loss many academic people and all women.
After the Taliban regime on 2002, Herat University tried to make a new structure and in the first step inaugurated the new complex of university. It is about four years that the construction of the new complex of university is going on but due to having no budget the work was suspended temporary. Recently, according to the decision of the government, the complex of university has gone to the development projects of the government and its construction is started again, and it is expected that the construction of the complex be finished in next four years.
