LOVE TRIANGLE
Roman Fever refers to a particular deadly strain of malaria that affected Rome. People used to believe that you could catch it from being out in the cold. In the short story “Roman Fever “written by Edith Wharton, the roman fever is not only from a disease, but from love. Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley have been friends since they first met as young women in Rome, when Alida (Mrs. Slade) was engaged to Delphin Slade. This friendship forms the enduring tie between Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley. However, their friendship is weakening by the deeper, hostile feelings they have for each other, feelings that they hardly dare to admit. Because each has something to hide about the early days of their friendship, they have not been honest with each other in their friendship.
I thought this story was interesting because things like your friend going behind your back with your fiancé or boyfriend, or in a guy's case, your best friend going behind your back with your girlfriend, do happen. The lesson of this story is "Don't play games because you will probably end up in an ugly situation and the person might take you up on it." Also, appearances aren't always innocent. The structure of the story is Mrs.Slade and Mrs. Ansley sitting and visitng, we're basically learning about the two of them and how long they have known each other. The second half of the story is that their true feelings for each other are revealed, as well as the truth about Barbara's heritage. Barbara is Mrs.Ansley's daughter, but she is also the daughter of Mrs.Slade's late husband. We learn that 25 years ago, Mrs.Ansley had a one night stand with Mrs.Slade's fiancé and became pregnant with his daughter, which is ironic when   Mrs Slade said “And I was wondering, ever so respectfully, you understand... wondering how two such exemplary characters as you and Horace had managed to produce anything quite so dynamic Barbara."
Now that we discussed the theme of the story let me tell you about the author...
