Employers now look for those
who are proficient in English and have good written and verbal
communication skills. This is to ensure that the company is able to
compete in the global market. Graduates with that special edge in
English are immediately snapped up by employers. Nowadays, fresh
graduates lack this special edge and this causes them to lose out in
the job hunt.

In this case, it puzzles me as to why the Malaysian government decides to
revert back to the teaching of mathematics and science in Malay. Being
a secondary school student myself, I cannot imagine what the standard
of English would be like if the plan goes on. In the current situation
where mathematics and science are taught in English, the standard of
English is still not up to the global standard and does not seem to be
improving. What more about teaching those subjects in Malay. Ask
yourself; wouldn't it be like taking a step back when other countries
are realizing the fact that English is very important? Changing the
teachings of mathematics and science to Malay would only make the
standard of English lower and students will be less versed in the
English language. Even research materials and information on the
Internet are mostly in English.

I do realize the importance of learning Malay in Malaysia but the
Malay language alone will not bring Malaysians far in the global
market. Being an international language, English is a must to succeed
in this global rat race. The government must wake up and come to their
senses that teachings of mathematics and science in Malay will only
cause the standard of English to drop and that we are taking a step
back in globalisation. Are the politicians just doing it to win votes?
Think of it; they are making all these decisions but they do not know
what hardships we as students face when they make their decisions. Why
are we treated as guinea pigs in their little experiment that they
like to have at their own whims...
