THE DIWALI OF MY DREAMS

When I was returning home from school, I saw that people were painting and decorating their houses. The shopkeepers were also decorating their shops. I could not understand what was happening. When I reached home, I saw that my mother was cleaning the house. I asked her what was happening and came to know from her that Diwali was fast approaching. I jumped with joy when I heard this from her because Diwali was my favourite festival. Deepavali or Diwali, as it is popularly known means ’’festival of lights’’. It is a festival of lights symbolizing the victory of good over evil and the glory of light. Diwali is celebrated in the honor of lord Rama, who on this day returned to Ajodhya from 14 years of forest exile. We celebrate Diwali by spending time with family and friends. We perform religious ceremonies to bring in wealth and prosperity, cook and eat delicious food, design rangolis, light up diyas and candles and burst crackers and fireworks. Diwali is a time for celebrating. We get to eat a lot of sweets, wear new clothes and have fun by bursting crackers and fireworks. I enjoy this festival a lot. But some children are not able to enjoy this festival. Bursting fireworks shortens the life of children working in fireworks factories. They also have the right to celebrate. If we reduce the use of bursting crackers, then only the children working in fireworks factories can celebrate Diwali. They have to work day and night for making these fireworks. Therefore if we try not to burst fireworks, we can make the faces of millions like those children smile. So, in my opinion Diwali should be celebrated, but in a different way. Bursting crackers should be less, thus giving a chance to celebrate to the less fortunate children. I dream of this type of Diwali. HAPPY DIWALI!!!
