Teachers are the nation-builders. They build the future citizens of the country. But nobody in our society thinks of the teachers.   TEACHERS’ DAY September 5th is the Birth anniversary of one of the modern India’s most notable Teachers and philosophers, the Late Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was Independent India’s second President. We have been observing it ever since his passing away as our country’s Teachers’ Day. This day is just a mere reflection of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's love for and attachment to the teaching profession. As a matter of fact Dr. Radhakrishnan himself asked his admirers to celebrate his birthday not as his birthday but as the teacher's day. One of the most celebrated writers in the modern India today his work varies on philosophical, theological, ethical, educational, social and cultural subjects. He contributed numerous articles to different well-known journals, which, are of immense value and seems to surprise various readers because of the depth in the meaning of the articles.We take pride in the thoughts and teachings of this Guru of the Gurus, someone who possessed the qualities of a Rishi and a Raja and thus was considered a Rajarshi. Almost immediately after Independence Nehru assigned him as India’s first Ambassador to the Soviet Union. This Indian Ambassador boldly told Stalin, face-to-face, to be humane and non-violent. Getting up to take leave of this taciturn and tough Dictator, Ambassador Radhakrishnan permitted himself to pat Stalin on his cheeks.
A true teacher is not someone who just teaches academic lessons to his/her students. Rather, he/she is like a guide, who helps the students in each and every sphere of life, by giving the right advice. They are future makers. None of the achievers in this world has attained a feat without the guidance of a teacher. Teacher's Day seeks to acknowledge this very contribution of teachers.
