In this part of my coursework I will be defining and understanding what health and well being is. Also naming and explaining the aspect of health and the models of health.

The definition of health
My definition is that health is the state of physical, mental, social well being. Health is not just affected by an individual’s lifestyle choice, but also by environment and people.

In 1948 the World Health Organisation (WHO) defined health as “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” This definition received mush criticism for a number of reasons which was that it was offensive to people that were suffering physical, mental and social well-beings who was classed by the government that they are not healthy because of the disabilities that they have. That healthy only means when a person is physically healthy that you are entirely healthy on all ways. This WHO’s definitions means that healthy means is someone that is good at physical things, without mental problems and good at social skills. This was then changes in 1984 to “The extent to which an individual or group is able, on the one hand, to realise aspirations and satisfy needs and on the other hand, to change and cope with the new environment. Health is therefore seen as a resource of everyday life, not the object of living; it is a positive concept emphasising social and personal resources as well a physical capabilities.” I think this is a better definition because it involves all people with disabilities that can cope with life.   It is also not offensive to people that do have disability as it does not single them out and does not class them as unhealthy because of things that they cannot do certain thngs.   It means that you are healthy if you can cope with everyday life.
