Respect

Most people may not agree, but respect is an important issue. Respect is to have a sense of the worth or excellence of a person or their qualities. There are many people whom you should respect. One example would be your mother and father. In Leviticus, God states that one should respect their parents. “Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:3. The bible also says "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Colossians 3:20. Obeying your parents would be a way of showing them respect. This would also include your grandparents. They are just as much of a parent as your mother and father. The bible also says to show respect for the elderly. “Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.” Leviticus 19:32. Elders take on a very important part in our lives. They help guide us in our lives and help us to make the right choices. Respecting our elders will let them know how important they are to us. We should also respect others. “Therefore, however you want people to treat you, so treat them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12. Respecting others can also gain the respect others have towards you. You should also respect yourself.   “For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body“1 Corinthians 6:20. You should not disrespect your body by doing anything deliberately harmful to it. This could mean piercings, tattoos, or even purposely cutting yourself. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;”1 Corinthians 6:19. When you do these things to disrespect your body you are also destroying the temple of the Holy Spirit. While doing this you are also disrespecting God.
