Lord of the Flies Mask
I paid special attention to the eye area because if anyone ever says something about me, it’s about my eyes. I tend to use makeup techniques that make them pop in some way, it usually calls for a lot of it. You’ll notice that there is only half a mask, I prefer to show who I am for the most parts, but we all have secrets. The red, on my part, symbolizes blood I’ve lost. I had a really rough life prior to now, I had tried to commit suicide at one point. The glitter around the eye can be taken as something bright, when I went to get help my life started to shine in a way. The swirls around the top is the pattern of a blanket my grandmother got me from Spain, when she passed I took to art and re-drawing the pattern in her honor. I guess without the façade people could see me as someone with a past, but with it, I’ll be confident and fearless.
This mask shows the persona of any teenage girl in the world. Very protected and self-conscious. This is where the bright red color ties in; it’s a shocking, popping color. It would give somebody a sense of confidence. The black stains under the eye are obviously what they seem, makeup running. There isn’t a person in the world that hasn’t ever felt pain, no one wants to show it so they simply cover it up. The random brush strokes convey that nobody is perfect, and you can’t always seem that way.
