Teenage pregnancy rate is growing significantly causing hardship for young parents, their children, and society as a whole.   The consequences of becoming pregnant as a teenager are far reaching.   They include the financial burden of raising a child, social and behavioral changes that come from feelings of shame and fear, and the inability to complete ones education and therefore lack job skills you need to have a job that would provide for a family.
Having a kid at such a young age can cause many problems not only for the teen mother but also for their child.   Many are forced to drop out of high school and many never return to complete their education and get a diploma. Only 40% of teenagers who have children before age 18 go on to graduate from high school, (http://marchofdimes.com.) A teen now days with no diploma will have a hard time finding a job because the lack of knowledge they have and little to no job skills. Teens with no job can’t provide for their kid and give them the life they deserve, more than likely they will end up turning to welfare. Teens usually end up being dependent on their family or public assistance. As for the babies born to teenagers they are often born too small and too soon. Low birth weight babies may have an immature organ system, difficulty controlling body temperature and blood sugar levels, and mental retardation.   The risk of dying in early infancy is much higher for low birth weight babies when compared to those with normal birth weight.
