CULTURAL LINKS BETWEEN FIJI AND NEW ZEALAND
The links between Fiji and New Zealand run deep and over the years. Both countries have developed a long and treasured history. For instance both enjoy rugby; Fiji and New Zealand compete in the 7’s tournament.
In Addition ,New Zealand and Fiji have long lasting and close links through our shared history, culture, migration, business, education and lastly but not leastly is sports which bond the two countries the most. New Zealand high commission in Suva is the face of the New Zealand government in Fiji as well as its representative’s office to Tuvalu and the pacific island forum secretaries’. Its role is to manage the New Zealand relationship with Fiji, Tuvalu and other regional international partners based in Fiji, and to convey the New Zealand government’s views on key issues.
Furthermore, Fiji is a close neighbour of New Zealand. New Zealand is committed to helping the people of Fiji though our programme of International development assistance. Key sector of New Zealand’s official development assistance to Fiji include promotion of democratic governance, strengthening of civil society and improving the livelihood and economic opportunities for the people of Fiji. New Zealand is also on hand to help in times of emergency or when a disaster strikes. A recent example is a delivery of emergency relief supplies after the cyclone Tomas and also a project to re-build homes in affected areas. Another devastating flooding that took place in Fiji just recently in April , New Zealand made a move when people of Fiji were going through this horrible situation .New Zealand government gave in their hand to help the victims by pledging $75000 for the Fijis...
