Outcry of people from Triplicane – A note from T.A.Sampathkumar, President, Srinivas Youngmens Association, Triplicane

The civic conditions in Triplicane have gone from good to bad to worse.   The tolerance of the people have gone from worse to bad to good.   People have accepted the sub-optimal civic conditions as the way of life, thinking that it is just next to impossible for them to make a difference.   There used to be a saying that if you are living in Triplicane you are the most blessed but that remains a myth and if you live in Triplicane today you are the most cursed one.

Take any problem - Traffic ?   With the increasing volume of traffic thanks to approved and unapproved flats and the number of visitors increasing by the day, given the most famous Parthasarathy Swamy Temple and Marina beach located here and with the increasing number of business establishments/shops across every streets, there are too many vehicles that gets parked on either sides of the road (some action has happened recently to earmark parking places on one side of the road on some of the important roads), least caring for the flowing traffic and traffic discipline, even the best effort from the traffic police department would be hardly sufficient to address the issue.

Civic conditions - As long as people continue to spit and use the roads as public conveniences, any amount of effort from the Corporations will be an exercise in futile.   However, there has hardly been any effort from the Corporation either to clean all the bins on a regular basis.   May be, the bins are not sufficient why the bins overflow but it reflects very poorly on us especially when visitors come from abroad.   To add to the problem is the market place and vendors there who find it convenient to use the centre of the road as the vegetable waste disposal point, so that the cattles don't disturb their business.   But, for the cattle owners it is such a free ride of providing the basic food for their cattle so...
