Character Costume Analysis
As portraying the role of Michael Cassio in the play Othello we are re in acting, the costume for Cassio was derived from the aspect of certain character traits that Cassio posses on screen that make him different from that of others that surround him. In choosing this costume for Cassio, I took a couple things into consideration here, one that protruded was the way he conducts himself, in contrast to Iago. From this I could derive that, for Cassio, the look would require itself to be elaborate, and polished, because it portrays this sense of class, and integrity that we as a reader can from simply reading Casio’s thoughts. This is when a couple pieces came to mind, for me, it was a plaid shirt, and a pair of black pants, the black to suppress the general sense of control Cassio has over himself, whereas on the other hand the plaid shirt polished the look off in an aspect that gave Cassio a very well put together look. To tie it together, the look was topped off with a pair of brown riding boots. Again, the boots paired with the shirt to add a simple, but yet effective touch in to aspect of getting a clean, well put together image across. The look was tied together with a simple ring, and a sword commonly used for fencing. The sword is a typical item you would expect to see on a lieutenant at any moment in time, none the less, it simply ties the ensemble together, likewise the ring.

Now on the other hand, I also had to responsibility in portraying the role of Iago as well. So for this outfit, it took a bit of elaboration on both parts, of my partner and I to decide upon what we thought was best to suit the character traits of Iago. Like Cassio and Othello, we were going for the polished sophisticated look alongside a touch of bad, from the prior information we had gathered from the text.
