India is my country. India was declared independent on 15th August 1947 from the British rule and became Republic on 26th January 1950. Great leaders to name a few, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Rani Laxmibai and many more fought for India’s freedom.

New Delhi is the capital of India but Mumbai city, where I live is known as the business capital of India.   India has 28 states and 7 union territories.   Satyamev Jayate is the motto of my country.   Jana Gana Mana is the national anthem and Vande Mataram is the national song. Hindi and English are the official languages of my country.   Tricolor is our national flag.

Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister and the present Prime Minister is Dr. Manmohan Singh while Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President, Pratibha Patil is the present President of India.   India is a democratic country where people belonging to different castes, creed and communities, following various cultures live together under one roof. India is the only country where we have the right to practice our own religion.   There is no other country in the world that enjoys this right.

Parliament is the house where our constitution is laid and consists of Upper House and Lower House, where the government runs.   India’s currency is the Rupee.

Last but not the least; I just cannot forget to mention that Taj Mahal in Agra is one of the Seven Wonders of the World which India can boast of. India is beautiful beyond imagination, with a lot of geographical, cultural, dressing and food habits, i.e unity in diversity hence it is a hot spot among tourists who flock throughout the year.

Yes, I can continue to say a lot about my country but time is short and I have to wind up as others would like to express themselves.   It goes without saying that I love my country and am proud to belong to this great country.
