Fossil fuels are the main sources in many countries, but in some countries the use of alternative source of energy (such as nuclear) are encouraged. Is it a positive or negative development?
Last two decades have witnessed many historic and dramatic changes in every sector of economy and technology in rapid succession, which made enormous contribution to the modernization of the human society. However, the high degree of development not only leads to a better life, but also consequently causes monumental energy consumption.

Nowadays, fossil fuels are the prime choice for most of nations, only because they are easy to acquire, which means you do not need to obtain a high tech like nuclear, and of course they are less risky than nuclear. Undoubtedly, for the individuals who hold the opposite opinion on alternative source of energy like nuclear, using nuclear power as a source of energy is rather dangerous, because once nuclear leakage occurs, the harm would be irretrievable. With the massive earthquake disastrously happened in eastern Japan, more and more people start to oppose the nuclear energy.

Nevertheless, there are still supporters all around the world. They argue that the probability of nuclear leakage can be extremely low, which means the benefits of nuclear power will outweigh its disadvantages.

As for me, nuclear power can be an effective choice but not the best one. We can not only judge its risk by probability. Most importantly, there are still much renewable clearer energy such as wind power and solar power available, by which I believe that someday both the fossil fuels and nuclear power will be replaced.
