Dear Nicole and Rico,

I have known you guys for such a long time and I feel so honored to be able to share this special day with you. As you both know, I have been taking an interpersonal communications class and feel very fortunate to be able to share some valuable advice with you guys, which will hopefully help you in this wonderful journey. I know that you are newly engaged, and this information will prove to be of use in your relationship. We have all heard numerous times that “communication is key in all marriages,” and this proves to be true in many different ways. Having effective communication is key to building a stronger and better relationship between two people who will soon be joining their lives. This is my letter to you guys in hopes to leave a little piece of positive reinforcement and advice in how to effectively use interpersonal communication to better and prolong your marriage.
It is important to know the principles and misconceptions of effective interpersonal communication. This is the start to understanding one other. As a couple, it is important to be able to connect, participate, and share with each other as well as those around you. Interpersonal communication cannot be avoided. Even if a person keeps to him or herself and avoids eye contact, they are still sending out a message to others even if no words are being communicated. Interpersonal communication is the exchange of messages between two people to create shared meaning (Sole, 2011). Thus effective interpersonal communication is shared among two or more individuals to produce a mutual understanding between the words or gestures being exchanged.
One of the biggest mistakes we as humans make is to assume. When we are in a relationship, we sometimes forget that they cannot read our minds or feelings. We tend to get mad or upset when they do not do or say something that...
