ABSTRACT

Breast disease is a leading women’s health issue.   It is now the most common form of cancer among women in the United States, affecting 1 out of 8 in their lifetime.   With such a disease a change or cure must be found to protect the health of millions of women. The aspects on the many types of breast cancer and how to prevent the disease will be discussed.   While this disease continues to grow more prominent, so does the research and the chance to find a cure. And with this growth will come a better understanding and knowledge on how help the already affected or the possible newcomers.

Types of Breast cancer
There are many classifications of breast cancer. Three are ILC (Invasive Lobular Carcinoma), IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma), and Inflammatory breast cancer. ILC is classified as the second most common type of breast cancer. According to “The American Cancer Society” (2012), more than 180,000 women in the United States find out they have invasive breast cancer each year. About 10% of all invasive breast cancers are invasive lobular carcinomas. To break down and define the disease even more the word “Invasive” means that the cancer has “invaded” or spread to the surrounding breast tissues. The word “Lobular” means that the cancer began in the milk producing lobules. And “Carcinoma” means any cancer that begins in the skin or other tissues that cover internal organs. ILC affects women at any age but is more common as women grow older. “The American Cancer Society” (2012) states that two-thirds of women are 55 or older when diagnosed with ILC.
Another form of breast cancer is IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma) or sometimes called infiltrating ductal carcinoma. All together “invasive ductal carcinoma” simply means cancer that has broken through the wall of the milk duct and begun to invade the tissues of the breast.
