Smoking is one of the leading killers in world. Many have argued that smoking should be banned in public places for health reasons, but what about other reasons like the fact that children are exposed to this hazardous habit and even the litter? Smoking affects everything and everybody around it, not just the smoker and therefore should be banned in any public arena because of the effects it has on the health of people exposed to it, and the environment.
First smoking in public places causes a considerable amount of harm to people those who are non-smokers. For example, my cousin died three years ago from second hand smoking. She worked in an office that was full of smokers. The smokers are still around; she is dead after being bedridden with a pitiful, metastasizing and deadly lung cancer. Smoking in public can be a very hazardous thing for people smoking and especially people around them.
Second reason is that smoking is a cause of pollution. There is a lot of research that shows that many kinds of gases that is released by smoking and is harmful for the environment, such as tar and carbon dioxide. A research says that approximately 4000 chemicals are present in cigarettes, which are breathed out and released in the atmosphere. Out of the total North American population 30% of them are smokers and the percentage of the smoking population in developing countries is much higher. This indicates that an enormous quantity of pollution is being released in the atmosphere every day. Everyone knows that now the environment is getting worse and worse.
And lastly the most serious problem with smoking in public is the negative effects it has on children. Children are the future so instead of polluting their bodies we should be doing everything we can to keep them healthy. Smoking can begin affecting children before they are even born.
