A brief review of the powers and responsibilities of the GLA and the Mayor
1.0 Introduction

In this report I will be analyzing and evaluating the different circumstances in which the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Mayor of London operate. I will look into different policies that have been introduced by both governing bodies in the last 5 years and also the gap between the development and the actual implementation of the policies. I will also give a brief review of the powers and responsibilities of the GLA and the Mayor. I will also have a look at what the mayor of London and the greater London authority (GLA) what their influences are as defined by the legislation.

Greater London Authority

To promote economic development and wealth also boost social development of the environment in general.
However the mayor of London also has various other responsibilities such as the welfare of Trafalgar square and parliament square.
Although the mayor has the upper hand in regards to decision making in regards to issues and the development of London, it is the mayor’s responsibility to ensure that the citizens of London have their say in decision making which will show that London is a diverse and opportunist city.
The GLA act 1999 was amended with the GLA act 2007 which enabled the mayor to have more authority and power. The GLA group is a unique inform of the government for London, it is made up of an elected mayor which is the mayor of London and as selected assembly which is the London assembly, the is roughly 600 staff to support the mayor and also the London assembly with their day to day jobs.
