Bilbo Was a Hero in The Hobbit
In The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who leaves his home at bags end to help his friends lead a quest to take back land and treasure stolen by a dragon named Smaug. Some people say that he was not a hero in the story because he was not your stereotypical hero but Bilbo was a hero because of the courage and bravery he shows, his loyalty to his friends and his strength displayed throughout the story. If Bilbo was not a hero he would have failed at one of the many opportunities in the story where most would have like in Chapter 2 Roast Mutton when he finds the trolls in the woods and realizes the danger he and his friends are in, "Trolls are slow in the uptake, and mighty suspicious about anything new to them."   In The Hobbit Bilbo was in fact a hero.
In The Hobbit, Bilbo shows courage and bravery throughout the text. One example of this is when he enters the dragon’s place and takes the Arkenstone and gives it to bard to stop a potential war.   “A sound, too, began to throb in his ears, a sort of bubbling like the noise of a large pot galloping on the fire, mixed with a rumble as of a gigantic tom-cat purring. This grew to the unmistakable gurgling noise of some vast animal snoring in its sleep down there in the red glow in front of him.” This exerts shows how scared Bilbo was when he entered the dragons layer. This shows courage because no one wanted to go to war and the only way to stop it was to help bard get something that Thorin wanted more the treasure.   This makes him a hero because he did not need to do this but he did not want to start a war. Also, if the war had begun it would be partially his fault for not trying to help. These traits of courage and bravery continue throughout the story as Bilbo grows as his adventure continues. An example of bravery from earlier in the book was when he fought off the giant spiders in the forest and freed his friends in chapter 8 Flies and Spiders. This showed bravery...
