History in the news Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn lived between July 15, 1606-October 4 1669. He was born Leiden and died in Amsterdam. Begin his studies at a Latin school at the age of 14. Rembrandt did most of his work in his house in Amsterdam; he had four children with his wife but only one survived. Rembrandt was discovered by his wife’s cousin who was a successful art dealer. Rembrandt was a Dutch painter he was considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history, and the most important in Dutch history. He was a master of oil painting, art of perspective, and etching. He was also known for having interest in several ancient cultures.
Thought Rembrandt was a man of the church and he did a lot of religious art, like Jacob blessing of god, the three crosses and the Jewish bride. He was a scholar, being so he was looking into areas that the church may not have approved of. Self-portraits were his most popular paintings. He made the people seem alive in his self-portraits. Although he was paid for his paintings he never had enough because he was a big spender.
Advanced X-ray technology has revealed an unfinished self-portrait by Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn. The portrait was detected beneath an oil painting showing an old man with a grey beard. They discover this man under the painting with advanced scientific techniques, x-ray testing and infrared scanning. The painting called Bearded Old Man was considered to have been made by one of The Dutch master’s Bearded Old Man students. Was scanned at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France and at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. Some scans determined the chemical composition and age of the paint, while others exposed the first figure to be drawn on the board. The technology was able to photograph the outline of the Rembrandt self-portrait, which was never finished.
