MENDING WALL
Dear Neighbour,
For years now I’ve been meaning to tell you something. It hasn’t been easy, writing this letter is hard. Well you know it is almost Spring time which means it is time to mend the wall.
For years now you have been a great help for me and helping to mend the wall. I don’t even know if the wall would still be there without your help thank you so much. I know we don’t talk much and you continuously ask for an explanation for this wall. I’m sorry it has taken me this long to finally write to you. It’s not as easy as you think.
You see this brick wall is very significant to me. My house used to be a part of it you know, back in the day. As I grew up my father built the house and all through my childhood I used to go outside and play. The wall was always there. When my parents became older they moved out and I then fully bought the house.
I moved in with my beautiful fiancé and we were so happy. The night before my wedding, I went out with a few mates and she stayed home to get rest for the day to come. I don’t understand why this had to happen. I wish I could go back and change that night.
I came home and the house was on fire, it was too late. I couldn’t save her or the house. I never speak of this night anymore. I like to be left alone. Behind my wall. It was the only thing that was left in the end. Over time I rebuilt the house and I guess I’ve been her by myself for about 5 years now.
Since that day I find it hard to be happy and make friends. I just can’t communicate with people the same. I hope you understand. With this wall becomes beautiful but sad memories as well. However it is the only think I have left.
I am very sorry that I am only telling you this now, but this is why I am the way I am. I hope you can respect that. Thank you so much for helping me. I look forward to it. I hope overtime we can build a friendship.
Thank you dear neighbour of mine.
Yours sincerely,
Guy over the wall
