Othello

The play Othello revolves around the conflicts between the characters, these conflicts are created by hypocrisy, envy, lack of communication, and most of all jealousy. All these emotions take part in the tragic ending of our story; one of the most important conflicts in the play is Othello’s insecurity about his age and race, these characteristics lead him to his tragic flaw and demise.

Othello is the play’s protagonist and hero. A Christian moor and general of the army in Venice, Othello is powerful figure, very chivalrous, and is respected by all those around him. In spite of his elevated status, he is nevertheless easy prey to insecurities because of his age, his life as a soldier, and his race, which his ensign Iago uses to twist his love for his wife, Desdemona, into a powerful, destructive jealousy, on the other hand, Desdemona, is young, white, and is the daughter of the senator Brabanzio, a very opulent man, who is secretly married to Othello before the play begins. She is equally capable of defending her marriage and responding with dignity to Othello’s incomprehensible jealousy.

Iago is a very malicious character, and is Othello’s adversary; he is the creator of all conflicts in the story, especially the reason that harasses Othello and makes him doubt himself and his relationship with his wife. Iago begins to inject the poison in Othello’s with virulent ideas mind since the beginning of the story; as these situations are happening Othello begins to believe Iago’s statements that Desdemona is being unfaithful.
