Argumentative Essay on Minimum Wage

In the Virgin Islands, Minimum wages laws determine the lowest price possible that any employer must and should pay for labor. The minimum wage is an immoral, illogical, and impractical thing more importantly this is wrong and it leads to less employment. It also forces workers to sell their labor below a certain monetary amount. Often time’s persons sell their labor below the allotted amount because they are often desperate to find a job and for this reason they are often taken advantage off.   Hence, by making labor more attractive, more human resources will be used, thus raising national productivity.
The traditional minimum wage model the quantity of supplied labor is greater than the quantity demanded are inadequate compensation for potential workers who are discouraged from entering the labor market.
Within the system where we give social welfare to those who are not working, we need to motivate people in order to get them to work and have a system which is productive. Now, some people will say that this is because of an inefficient market caused by minimum wage, but with the rising cost of living, striving on a minimum wage of four dollars is difficult in times. The difficulty is because it creates inequalities in the job market as persons would be forced seek more than one job.
As a result of this, workers here in the Virgin Islands that are working full time all year round and they are still falling below the poverty level. Subsequently, there would be cases where person already have more than one job, persons that are unemployed and is seeking jobs would not be able to hold jobs because of this reason as well. Furthermore, when looking at a family with a combination of two minimum wages salaries with the rising cost of rent, food and utilizes they still would not be able manage effectively especially when having kids that are attending school or colleges.
