Think back on the last time you accessed health care services in your community and make recommendations for incorporating unapplied telecommunications concepts that would have improved your visit. Provide specific examples to support your response.

In my old community, I would have like to see an improvement in the way physicians coordinate care and communicate with their patients. If physicians discussed patient’s test results and worked more as a team, it would increase the quality of care patients receive. One example is in terms of care given while hospitalized. Treating physicians need to know what is going in and collectively make needed changed. This would be extremely beneficial in the overall length of stay in the hospital. Facilities also need to assist the physicians in providing a seamless coordination of care to patients to prevent any gaps or duplications. Many of these issues could be prevented if services such as electronic health records (EHR) and telemedicine. I believe that telemedicine would have been provided better continuity of care during my hospital stay. Physicians would be able to access all of my medical records and together create a care that would best care for my health..     E-prescribing would also hold a benefit for my care so that medications would be recognized across the board reducing the risk of medication error or bad results in care due to the wrong dosage or medications that might counter act with one another.   When you are seeing multiple physicians for multiple symptoms and/or illnesses it is very important that all the physicians understand the different medications you are taking, this should include prescription medications as well as over the counter medications.   With a system such as E-prescribing all medications would be listed so that easy reconciliation could be delivered.
