A tourist guide provides assistance, information and cultural, historical and contemporary heritage interpretation to people on organised tours, and individual clients at educational establishments, religious and historical sites, museums and at venues of other significant interest.
What is a guided tour?
A guided tour – depending on the level of difficulty of the location - may somehow involve some kind of risks, be it real or perceived, but it also creates some excitement by stepping out of our comfort zone and besides it may require a significant physical or mental effort to deal with the different challenges put forward by the location.
Many people are attracted to the idea of tour guiding – that is, accompanying a group of visitors around a particular site, giving information on the history and geography of that area, pointing out its items of interest and generally being responsible for conducting the group efficiently. It can undoubtedly be a rewarding experience, but to be able to do this as an occupation, whether full time or part time, a large amount of research has to be done before getting oneself in the task. Guided tours can have both an explicit and an implicit purpose. The explicit purpose is mainly to provide visitors information about a particular place while the implicit purpose is to raise visitor awareness about cultural, ethical and environmental aspects of the area and to encourage the visitor’s interest in the tour.
Our team has tried to blend the guided tour with ecotourism.
