What is a Hydrocyclone?

A hydrocyclone is a static device that applies centrifugal force to a liquid mixture so as to promote the separation of heavy and light components. In another words, the Hydrocyclone is a hydraulic classification device.

The hydrocyclone is a closed vessel designed to convert incoming liquid velocity into rotary motion. It does this by directing inflow tangentially near the top of a vertical cylinder. This spins the entire contents of the cylinder, creating centrifugal force in the liquid. Heavy components move outward toward the wall of the cylinder where they agglomerate and spiral down the wall to the outlet at the bottom of the vessel. Light components move toward the axis of the hydrocyclone where they move up toward the outlet at the top of the vessel.

Apex valves may be of the tubular or disc depending on separation criteria.
Depending on the critical dimensions of the machine   size analysis of the feed, viscosity of the feed and feed inlet pressure, it is possible to make separations in the range 40 to 120 microns; with feed concentrations from 2% to 25% by Weight.
Hydrocyclones are available with Replaceable rubber liners at wearing areas like Apex & Feed; this makes it extremely easy to replace the liners within few hours of down time and thus our Hydrocyclones are largely deployed in abrasive & wear prone slurry applications like Sand Washing, Rock Phosphate beneficiation etc.

Above all hydrocyclones work only on feed pressure and its peculiar geometric design thus eliminating any rotary or moving part.
Necessary Feed Pressure usually 20 to 30 PSI is to be generated on feed side by any market available suitable feed pump for the slurry and the almost the same head is retained at the overflow; ensuring negligible power/head is consumed by the Hydrocyclones.
Available in Standardised sizes of 100mm, 150mm, 300mm, 450mm & 600mm and usually in MOC of C.I. / M.S. Rubber lined.
