It is human nature to want to feel the sense of belonging in different environments and situations. However, ones’ values and standards will be compromised when being true to ourselves is not good enough sometimes to let us fit into a judgmental world, that we will have to fight for it. Satisfying others and being accepted are not as easy as we think: we will have to prioritise others’ expectations and wills instead of our own. If not, people who does not have the specific and valid identity can find it much harder to belong. Therefore, in order to seek acceptance, love and support from one another, we maintain a poor façade and bury our true self deeply inside.
When we were small, we were taught to always be whom we are, but no one told us about the repercussions it could occur. Anton Krasovsky, 37 years old – the veteran MC and editorial director of KontrTV, a Russian cable television and internet network, reveals directly his true homosexuality to the audience; right after the show, everything that is relevant to him is deleted completely out of the Russian television station archive. Obviously, he is fired. According to the fact that Russia is one of the strictest country about the Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgendered (LGBT) equivalence, his rights will not be recognised by both the law as well as the society. Despite unforeseen this harsh consequence, still he does not accept his ‘faith’ that is living under the wrong cover of a normal man, so he does not compromise his own moral values, he stands up for his own good and he will be heard by one way or another.
Other people’ overambitious expectations, especially our parents’ of us can affect our sense of belonging easily, therefore, people tend to hide their true identity and obediently comply with others’ in order to fit in. Well-off, smartly dressed and displaying an impressive array of talents in and out of school, the teenagers seem to have perfect lives and be destined for exciting futures doing important...
