Divorce is a social problem that many times create issues with those involved in the dissolution of marriage, as well as those surrounding household members, most notably the children.   There is a number of causes why separation may transpire, such as financial distress, personality differences that can not appear to be worked through, unfaithfulness by one or both person’s involved, domestic abuse or disagreements in goals for the future. Today in society, divorce rates have been on the rise more and more.   While few try counseling in hopes of saving their marriage, it seems these days the majority choose to go separate ways.   People have taken societal views of divorce and used it as a reason to remain more independent; such as choosing cohabitation over matrimony.   Growing up in a divorced home allows insight and understanding in regards to this social issue.  
The issues surrounding divorce impact the individuals involved in various ways.   While it may seem that one, or the other party is handling the situation better, this may very well not be the case.   Divorce, as well as the events leading up to it, can interrupt the stability of one’s life.   “Few adults enter into divorce lightly. The decision to divorce is usually painful, preceded by years of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. Couples that divorce find themselves on an emotional roller-coaster, filled with fears and anxiety about an uncertain future, perhaps with thoughts that they might be able to patch things up. They often feel as though they are being torn apart; their identities shredded. No longer can they depend on many of the identity markers that had become such a stable part of their life” (Henslin, 2010, p. 346).
There are several stages involved once parents make the decision to separate and divorce.   The adjustment period for everyone can take minimal time for some while for others, could take years.   When a spouse has been unfaithful, for instance, the turmoil for the other half can feel...
